Puntimoso overview

entree_vergerWhen Patrick Berghman decides to return to the family exploitation in 1983, its concern is above all enraciner on a land of welcome. After a lot of years of childhood in Zaire (ex - Belgian Congo) and long periods of agricultural expertises or management of companies in Africa, it's enough. It is necessary to be incarnated on a soil, to return to a concrete practice. This beautiful ECRIN of hills to some encablures of the east coast of Corsica will offer opportunity of it to him. We are 40 kilometers far in the south of Bastia, on the commune of San Nicolao. For Patrick, on his return, and in spite of a part of its childhood on the spot, all here is new; all is to be learned. The citrus fruits and kiwi rather than the cocoa or cotton; daily care with the piece rather than acrobatics managing in the corridors of managed agricultures.

A citrus fruits biodynamics basket for the export market.

berg_227x150_horiz_00In 1983, the field counts approximately 15 hectares and the euphoria of clementine and Corsican kiwi moves away already. What to make young plantations of his/her father, carefully enchased according to level lines' in the hills of Moriani, and inevitably tributary of an export market?
Parallel to the training of the technical epic, its first years will be an economic and commercial combat to maintain the production equipment. But the solution will come from the soil. In such a privileged environment, the option in 1990 of biological agriculture then biodynamics becomes to him very natural. To make a product of quality, recognized better on the markets, is not an end in itself; appearance, calibration, rate of sugars, etc... Total quality is before all the consequence of balances restored for the grounds in their interactions with vegetable cover and the climate.

berg_227x150_horiz_06It will only be a question from now on of managing ecosystems cultivated rather than to exploit orchards mono-species. Thanks to this reconversion, the citrus fruits orchard found its excellence on the markets. It doubled even its surface and diversified: 12 hectares of clementines, tangerines, 2 hectares of pomelos as well as green lemons (limes). Now, the season starts in September to be completed in July. Today, Patrick is a reference impossible to circumvent of Corsican citrus fruits that it is for the French wholesalers (development of a faithful partnership with Pronatura), Germans and Belgians, with the networks of mini-markets bio of the continent (biocoop). To such a degree that the farm of Moriani became a platform of forwarding for a number of small citrus fruits bio producers of the island.
